Health Update Sent to Friends
“ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalms 91:15
It has been a very busy and challenging week for us last week. After an an X-ray and blood test, a meeting with the doctors in the Hospice, an assessment with my medical oncologist, I was given a medical prognosis: As far as the chemotheraphy and radiation treatment go, there’s nothing more that could be done. From a medical point of view, all that they could offer as an option is to make my life as comfortable as possible, that is to eliminate symptomatic conditions of the disease (pain maintenance).
Not a very good prognosis from medical point of view but I never had any doubt that God is perfectly in control. With God’s grace, Paco and I have peaceful and quiet hearts all throughout these assessments.
I also kept reminding myself of the memory verses I had:
Philippians 4:6,7 . ‘Not to be anxious about anything but in everything give my request to God and He will give me peace and quietness of heart beyond human understanding Isaiah 41.10 ‘Not to fear and be dismayed because He is my God Psa 91:14-16 ‘to believe that He hears my prayers and will rescue and protect me Psa 118:17 “ I shall not die but live and declare the glory of the Lord.
As far is the verse is concerned, I believe that everybody will pass away, there is just no exemption!!! but I refuse to be overcome by this disease. God’s Word is more powerful that any sickness. It is not God’s will that anyone should suffer from this disease!!
Everyday within the past weeks have been days of miracles for me, a testament to answered prayers and God’s guiding and helping Hand.
This song from Don Moen is so apt:
God will make a way
where there seems to be no way.
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
For each new day, he will make a way
…His word will remain
He will do something new today.
Right now, we are praying for the True physician to stretch out His Healing Hand. We pray that His glory, His power and His majesty will be magnified upon us. He is the sovereign God, His powerful WORD is eternal and personal. He is still the creative Word, He is still the incarnate Word and He is still the Saving Word (John 1:1-14). And the WORD is with us, praise Him (this is from Paco).

Lamentations 3:22-23” The steadfast of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning, Great is thy faithfulness.”
A familiar memory verse but, as always, gives new perspective and new meaning each time that I think through the passage.
“His steadfast love never ceases” . I have looked up through the available Thesaurus for other words of steadfast. I came up with a few; unwavering, persistent, reliable, dependable, constant. Gods love is unwavering, It does not change even when I become so faithless and unfaithful. It does not depend on the error of my ways and my weaknesses. His love is persistent, constantly vailable for me through good times and bad times.. It does not empty out.
“His mercies never come to an end”. Sometimes, I feel like I have always been asking God for mercy. From my limited human perspective, I would think that He must be full of my asking. I always ask Him to look down at me with favour, with His mercy, with His grace, with His compassion. I ask Him for healing, for comfort, for peace, for forgiveness. Anything and Everything. Over and over again.
Yet there comes a time that one feels so unworthy of His love to receive anything and a natural tendency to stop asking.
It is so inspiring and encouraging to be reminded that His mercies never come to an end. These are new every morning. I would have all that I could ask for throughout the day and then continue to ask the next day. I will not at any time run out of His mercy!
"Great is thy faithfulness." His steadfast love for me will save me and deliver me from this seemingly medically irreversible sickness. God will deliver me in His own perfect time and in His own perfect way. Indeed, great is His faithfulness.

Give thanks
Psalms 118:1 “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
What do I thank thee, Lord? Let me name a few!
I am freed from the slavery of sin by the blood of Jesus.
I was gifted the filling and the power of the Holy Spirit.
I was given access to approach the throne of grace with confidence.
I accepted so many undeserved gifts and been sheltered in His love.
I thank the Lord that I always wake up in the morning with renewed strength.
I am blessed with a loving, supportive Christian family. I will always be thankful to God for gifting me Paco, Khai and Kim. God’s love and faithfulness is abundantly mirrored in them. I dare not think of going through happy and difficult times by myself without the physical, moral, emotional and spiritual upliftment and support of my family.
I am so blessed with prayerful support of families (my family, Paco’s family) and Christian friends around the globe. Distance is no obstacle! They pray, they share the Word of God and they continue to support and encourage.
Proverbs 17:17 says “a friend loves at all times and a brother is born in adversity”.
I thank the Lord for the nightly prayer fellowship with special friends. I thank the Lord for the comfort, love and encouragement of a prayerful home study group, a group of believers of perfectly blended mix of cultures, skills, spiritual gifts and talents with one mind in Christ.
I am blessed with very good, skilled, understanding and caring medical specialists support. I am able to get good, free hospital care. I basked in warm and generous hospital clinic support.
I am greatly thankful for God's loving provision and faithfulness each day. With God’s grace, I am still able to work full time.
I thank thee Lord for giving us “peace that passes understanding “, and quietness of heart to trust that He is perfectly in control of everything.
As the song goes, “How can I say thanks for all the things he has done for me? Things so undeserved to prove His love for me. The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude. All that I am, I owe it all to thee”.
The Lord has shown us His mighty power. He has mercifully encouraged and strengthened us, graciously provided for our needs and miraculously worked through the people, the treatments and circumstances for His glory.
To God be the glory!!

Thoughts and prayers down the valley
“...and my God will supply every need of yours”
June 2010
2009!! What a year!! it has been a walk through radiation and chemo treatments one after the other.
On hindsight, how did i survive that? It is only through the gracious love and faithfulness of God.
Through the year, I have experienced answered prayers and God’s miracles in my life. Indeed, the Lord is our comfort and strength. He is the same God through different seasons, good times or bad times.
When things seem hopeless He gives me hope .
When I feel so helpless, He guides me through
and provides a way out of the mess.
When things get so painful, He provides strength and comfort,
When I feel sad, He reminds me of His presence.
When the way becomes rough, He gives me direction
In all things, He has abundant supplies of whatever I need.
Snippets of thoughts, experiences and prayers through physical and emotional pain of having the liposarcoma
May 14, 2009
At this time, I have finished 3 cycles of radiation treatments. Yet I am losing strength in my right arm. Am having double, blurring vision problems. My ears feel full and ringing. I feel so sad. I feel so downhearted. And envious of others who appear so physically well.
Lord, How long will I suffer these physical pains and difficulties? Only with your strength am I able to go through the days. Only in the hope of your Word that I find comfort and joy to look forward.
Why do I feel this gnawing fear? No child of yours should suffer this fear knowing and believing that You are the powerful God above all things on earth. Come Holy Spirit, fill me up with your power, restore my health and my joy. I command these cancer cells to leave my body.
Your Word is powerful, Lord. Your love is unending. …” all things work for good to those who love you and are called for your purpose”. You are the powerful God who created heavens and earth and has dominion over all things.
I declare the truth in your Word that By his stripes I am healed. I declare your Words in Psalms 118:17 that I shall not die but live to declare the glory of the Lord. I claim you Word in Matt 21:22 that anything that you ask in prayer if you believe you will receive.

I went to have blood analysis this morning. It has been such a ritual to me. I could easily imagine the different kinds of pricks and pain the needles inflict depending upon the person doing it. The prick is always different. Some days they are painless and some days these are painful.
This morning is not too bad. I closed my eyes. The needle prick did not disappoint me.
My Neutrophils is low again, 0.26. I don’t know what this means but they say, I will be prone to bacterial infection. Hopefully, it goes up so I could have my 3rd cycle of chemotheraphy this Tuesday.
I feel stronger these days. Satan has no power over me. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Everyday is a day of miracle for me. To be able to do normal activities is God’s miracle.
Lord, continue to fill my thoughts and enable me to expect your miracle everyday.
September 22, 2009
Lord you are the Lord of all things. Grant me comfort, ease my pain and give me peace that passes all understanding. You are with me. You have never left me by myself alone.
Lord, work a miracle in my life today. By your stripes I am healed.
Be my sight, my strength and my peace. Restore my body in light of Jeremiah 30.17 “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord
September 24, 2009
O Lord, I do need you to hold my hand and continue to reassure me of your healing hand. Touch me, O Lord.
Look upon me with favour Lord. Be my strength.
O Lord, you are the creator of the universe. Everything in this earth is yours.
Nothing is impossible to you .
November 10, 2009
Thank you Lord for waking me up with renewed strength this morning. Help me that I may keep up my strength throughout the whole day.
Today is my 5th chemo treatment at 10.45. Father, please go ahead before me and prepare the way for my treatment. Let your Word and the Power of the Holy Spirit flow through my body as I am given the drug treatment.
What does it mean to believe that you have already healed me? “by Christs Stripes I have been healed” .
Why am I still going through the treatment? Is it because you have provided it for me. By going through the treatment, don’t I believe in your Word?
I claim your word in I Peter 2.24, Mark 11.24 and Jeremiah 30.17 that you will restore my health and give me full life span.
May I glorify your name even as I go through these treatments and through this disease. Forgive me Lord for not taking care of my body well. It should have always been a fitting vessel for your use.

Remembering the years past: "I am your God"

“Fear not for I am your God”.
Its 2008. After years of yearning, planning and praying. Paco and I have finally decided to go back home for good. Home is the Philippines….that is in Mindanao. Bukidnon.
It has always been Paco’s earnest heart desire to do farming. And I support him wholeheartedly.
Things are going well according to plan. I have just finished a Post Doc contract. Kai has just finished her course. Kim is now in Uni. And I had just finished my 5 years of medical checkup with which the specialist declared that “ I am cancer-free”.
I am excited of the idea of working on some projects at home. I also look forward to possibilities of participating in student ministry activities, having always enjoyed teaching and helping students.
But it wasn’t meant to be!
I just learned that my liposarcoma has metastasized. MRI, CT scans, bone x-rays and medical assessments indicated that this malignant tumor was inoperable. It ensheathed the sciatic nerve. …that explains the agonizing, indescribable pain in my left lower back.
That meant shelving temporarily our plans. I had to stay put in NZ for cancer treatments.
The term liposarcoma had always eluded me. It was the word inoperable and incurable that rang the loudest. On the drive home from the orthopaedic clinic, I was wondering how a believer should react in times like this?…
Had no time to ponder. I sobbed my heart out. Shock? Fear? Sadness? I don’t know. A feeling of helplessness maybe, and disappointment, wondering what went wrong ?
Kim (my son, who accompanied me to the doctor) was such a comfort. He prayed with me. I started to thank God in light of I Thessalonians 5.18 “ to give thanks in all circumstances”(…although I didn’t feel thankful at the time but I was not bitter and resentful). Kim acknowledged the mighty power of God , His Sovereignty…that He is in control so we need have no fear. Saddened by the news but never felt defeated, we ( Paco, myself, Khai and Kim) looked up to the Lord and felt God’s comfort from His Word. We were strengthened by praying together, believing and claiming His promises. One is I peter 2:24 ( “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed).
Months of radiation and chemotheraphy treatments followed and through all these, we always have to look back and be sustained by the truth in Isaiah 41.10. The passage had always been a source of strength and comfort for me and my whole family throughout the previous years. Truly, the Word of God is living and powerful.
“Fear not for I am your God”. A very comforting word to be reminded that my God is the Sovereign, Almighty God. He speaks and things happen. How can I fear the unknowns of tomorrow with the assurance that He is in control of all things. I may be down and my family is as helpless but our God is not. He promised to strengthen, help and uphold me.
How can I be dismayed? He is the God who speaks and the storm calmed down. I was reminded of the song “ there is no mountain so high, God can not move it…”. . Be not dismayed. My God, who is a powerful God will help and strengthen me.

Jesus calms the storm
Remembering the years past: Jesus calms the storm
11 May 2004
Matt 8: 23-27 You of little faith, why are you so afraid?"
There are times in our lives when we find ourselves in difficult and seemingly overwhelming situations. In times like these, we feel so helpless. We often look up to God for help and being so self absorbed, find Him so far and uncaring to have allowed us to be in such situations in the first place. Just like the disciples, we often blurt out, Don’t you care Lord that we are “drowning”?
When Jesus and his disciples went into a boat to go to the other side of the lake, they found themselves caught up in the middle of a sudden furious storm. I would have thought that had they been on the ground and with a warning they would have run for a shelter, settled in a safe place and would probably stayed there until the storm abated. As it was, they were in the thick of it without any sign of a way out. They did what was the natural thing to do, look up to the leader and let him make the decision. Jesus was sleeping and appeared to be uncaring of what will happen to them. Whatever they may have been expecting Jesus to do, I thought it was not to rebuke the storm, but Jesus rebuked the storm! And the disciples were amazed.
It is so easy to panic and worry when we get ourselves in trouble. Sometimes the gravity of the situation overwhelms us and we often feel so alone and that God does not care. But Jesus cares. “You men of little faith, why are you so afraid?” God wants us to trust in Him and believe that even in the middle of impossibly difficult circumstances, He is perfectly in control. As Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou dost keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusts in thee”. It is only when we are focused unto Him that we will understand how His mighty power overcomes all things, however big and difficult they may seem to us.

The heavens declare God's glory
Remembering the years past: The heavens declare God’s glory
July 19, 2004
Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God. The skies proclaim the work of his hands”.
We are, at present, in the middle of the winter season here in NZ. The temperature in Palmy dips down to 2 in the early hours of the morning. Probably not very cold compared with other temperate countries but freezing cold for us, who have lived most of our lives in tropical climate. As it was in the previous days, it is so difficult to wake up and leave the comforts of a warm bed in the morning (although, as I think back, when was it ever so easy for me to leave the comforts of my bed in the morning). As usual, I was still curled up in bed at 8:00. I hear Paco moving about and waking me up since 7 AM. Bless him.
I was finally up at 8:10, and prepared for the day. I have missed Kim leaving for school. He bikes his way to school almost everyday. I heard him above my head and felt him kissing me goodbye. I finally had to uncurl myself, leave the beckoning bed and prepared for my day. Have donned 3 layers of clothing . On my way to work. I am still thinking about the warmth of the bed. I have a vague remembrance of the frost-covered grasses, the rays of sunlight streaming through the fog, the children walking to school. I missed a lot of things. If I am asked to recall five things that I noticed this morning , I would have answered none. I was so caught up in feeling the ‘nippiness’ of the day and the difficulty of having to drive against what I thought was a glaring light.
I have reached the AgResearch Levy Bldg, still grumbling about the cold day. As I sat down and started to reflect about what I am going to do for the day, I opened my bible for a brief glance at my passage for the day, Psalms 19:1.
“The heavens declare the glory of the Lord and the skies proclaim the work of his hands”.
The bible talks about a magnificent God who have created these natural things around me, of which I am grumbling about. The sky is proclaiming the work of His hands. As I looked out of the window, what a nice beautiful day, INDEED! to wake up to after having been so refreshed and strengthened through the night. How majestic is God’s work, who have created the changing seasons and the changing sceneries. No one cant just miss experiencing His power by looking at the heavens and the sky and the earth. Be it through the serenity and beauty or the raging power of nature, God is wonderful and mighty powerful.
What about my life? What does it say about my creator? Does it declare a wonderful, caring, powerful God?
As always, I am humbled by the knowledge about a mighty God and my nothingness apart from Him.
